British WW1 SMLE 1907 pattern Wilkinson Bayonet with Scabbard

£275.00

1 in stock

British WW1 SMLE 1907 pattern Wilkinson bayonet with scabbard and scarce brown leather frog.

The grip still retains its original smooth, dark wooden grip slabs, which are held in place by the original grip screw nuts and bolts.

On the pommel, the release button still works perfectly

The steel blade is in excellent condition, with just some slight greying to the finish that will polish out.

The pattern/issue date was certified by a militaria authority in 1990 as being 1916.  This is confirmed by the drainage hole in the pommel, which was added to these bayonets in 1916.  There is also the maker’s name "WILKINSON".

The scabbard is in good/reasonable condition due to its age; the leather is firm, and all the stitching is secure. The metal fittings are securely held in place by their original staples.

The brown leather belt frog is fixed with 6 brass rivets and a strap with a brass buckle. These frogs are hard to find, and this one is in good condition.

PROVENANCE: This was passed down to the owner from his grandfather, who served in WW1.

This bayonet is being sold on behalf of a customer. It is held here in stock at Dartmoor Knife.
