Wilkinson Sword Survival Knife MkI Ser No 0005

We see these very rarely.  This is the MkI Knife in light satin beadblast. The blade is free from chips.  It has not been used or home-sharpened.  It is only the 5th Wilkinson Sword Survival Knife ever released.  Numbers 1-10 were reserved for the knife's inventor, Ray Mears, senior Wilkinson Sword staff, and a few special customers.  We have never seen one of these knives with a single-digit serial number.  Now approximately 40 years old, it is very rare indeed.

It comes with its original survival kit tube and button compass, with metal match, fishing line, fishing kit, tweezers and 2 needles.  Its serial number is engraved on the tang: 0005.  The Wilkinson Sword logo is engraved on one side of the Blade and the Royal coat of arms/appointment on the other.

Missing are the Box, Owner's Leaflet, and the small card Warranty tag that was tied through the lanyard rivet.  The Owner's Leaflet will be emailed in .pdf format.

HISTORY
Designed by UK bushcraft instructor Ray Mears*, the Survival Knife was released by Wilkinson Sword circa 1986. The MkI came with a silver-coloured locking pommel nut. The MkII had a brass-coloured locking nut.  The Knives came with a printed box sleeve with either a cardboard inner box with wadding to secure the Knife inside or a polystyrene inner box plus lid cut out to take the Knife. Each was numbered 1*** and 2***, respectively. Two versions of the Knife were available: light satin bead-blasted finish and highly-polished steel, which looked almost like chrome. It was withdrawn a few years later to eventually be replaced by the Dartmoor Knife in 2003, which was a redesign of the original Survival Knife.
